SKAspot LIVE is Here!
SKAspot may soon be coming to a venue near you! In it's mission to "forge a global ska community", SKAspot is introducing SKAspot LIVE, a concept that was dreamed up by Vancouver's Dan Cowan and SKAspot's creator, Andy Jeter from Florida. The duo wants to create an ongoing series of ska shows to spread SKAspot's brand of "SKAmmunism" to the masses with hopes of replicating the experience in other venues around the world. This will happen through the establishment of "Spotmasters", SKAspot LIVE's version of an event organizer. With years of experience working in the music industry as a Production, Stage and Tour Manager (among other things), Dan Cowan is the first of what we hope will be many Spotmasters. SKAspot LIVE's first event took place in Vancouver on March 28th , 2008 with a 7 band Ska A Thon.
About SKAspot
SKAspot was created in the Spring of 2007 with the intention of being the most comprehensive ska music portal on the web with links to bands around the world, listings of some of the best ska podcasts on the web, videos featuring everything from traditional ska to third wave, a vast collection of ska related information and resources, and a social network to help ska bands and fans connect.
Who Came Up With SKAspot?
SKAspot's creator, Andy Jeter, is a ska fan from a non-existent Southwest Florida scene who created the site as a means of staying connected with ska music. Originally from Gainesville, Florida, Jeter was introduced to ska through such bands as Less Than Jake, The Usuals, and Skif Dank and was very much involved in Gainesville's ska boom of the second half of the 90's, promoting local bands and putting on shows featuring acts such as The Know How and The Busdrivers. After college, Jeter moved to South Florida with his wife and began a career in education. In addition to SKAspot, he spends some of his spare time working on such projects as the SKA Toolbar and his ska podcast.
SKAspot's Evolution
Since it's inception in 2007, SKAspot has joined forces with SKA Summit to develop a ska music centered social networking experience unlike any other. SKA Summit: The SKAspot Network is a Ning based service where ska fans and bands can share music, photos, videos, blogs, and participate in ska related discussions.
SKAspot teamed up with manager/promoter and former House of Blues Sr. Production Manager (among other things), Dan Cowan to create an event called SKAspot Live. The inaugural show took take place in March 2008 in Vancouver and the SKAspot team hopes to expand this event to venues around the globe.
SKAspot's Mission
SKAspot's mission is to forge a global ska community and to promote ska music as a genre by providing valuable web-based resources to ska bands and fans, and educating the "un-initiated" about the rich history of ska music.
